How to read the result

Enter the amount you are comparing in Part / new value and its reference amount in Whole / original value. The tool shows both the part as a percentage of the whole and the change from the original value.

Example: 25 out of 200

Enter 25 as the part and 200 as the whole. The percentage is 25 ÷ 200 × 100 = 12.5%. Treating 200 as the original and 25 as the new value gives (25 − 200) ÷ 200 × 100 = −87.5% change. These answer different questions.

Important: The reference amount must be greater than zero. To calculate a discount from 200 to 150, enter 150 as the new value and 200 as the original: the change is −25%.
